Structural changes and properties modifications in heat treating of tool steels: the dominant role of Physical Metallurgy
by M. Rosso
International Journal of Microstructure and Materials Properties (IJMMP), Vol. 2, No. 1, 2007

Abstract: The properties of alloys are strongly influenced by the adopted processing route and its parameters, as well as by the execution of suitable thermal or mechanical treatments or by a their suitable combination. The paper aims to focus on the fundamental of the effects produced by heat treatments on tool steels, with particular reference to the influence of the alloying elements, as well as of the process parameters. A case study applied to two different grades of high speed steels is presented, with particular reference to the influence of the treatment temperature on the mechanical and micro structural properties.
