Abstract: Management innovation as a concept has been in inception from the times of 1960s but down the years, the emergence of this concept as an independent entity has not happened well. Concerning the strategy literature, it has been identified as an important aspect of firm's performance. Moreover, in literature, its association with technical innovation can easily be witnessed. Therefore, due to this frequent overlap in various management domains the original meaning of management innovation has gone to latency. Keeping these concerns at the centre, this paper aims to discuss management innovation as a core concept, its characteristics, various affecting variables, researches done so far, and lastly some directions for research in the field of management innovation. The research methodology used is the rigorous literature review keeping organisational context at the centre. The study is of significance to policymakers for taking informed decisions and for researchers for further investigations.
