Abstract: Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and its effect is a contemporary issue of academic discourse. Several studies have linked EO to improved business performance, with emphasis on both unidimensional and multi-dimensional measures of EO. However, studies on the determinants of EO are limited. This article examines the influence of socio-demographic factors on EO on the one hand, and how socio-demographics and EO jointly influence employment generation among MSMEs on the other hand. This article utilises data collected from 242 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Lagos metropolis, Nigeria through the aid of a validated questionnaire. The results show that socio-demographic variables - age of the entrepreneurs, academic qualification, gender, and location have a greater likelihood and a significant influence on firms' EO. Further analysis reveals that entrepreneurial orientation, firms' size, gender, and owners' academic qualification are highly likely to influence employment generation among the firms. The study concludes with appropriate implications for policy and practice.
