Abstract: Comprising activities as different as publishing of books, visual arts and entertainment, multimedia activities, design, architecture, advertising, and so on, the creative and cultural industries have been shown to represent a major driver of economic growth. The present paper expands on this research by studying, for the period between 2007 and 2014 the impact of the endowment of creative potential on the economic growth of Italian provinces (NUTS 3 regions), alternatively measured in terms of employment and value-added dynamics. Estimating ordinary least squares (OLS) and fixed-effect (FE) models, it contributes to research on drivers and economic impact of the emergence of the new creative and cultural industries. Findings show that presence and entrepreneurial dynamism of the creative and cultural industries, favoured by the use of trademark as preferred type of Intellectual Property Rights protection, represented in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis a significant driver of employment and value-added growth.
