Abstract: Micro gas turbine (MGT) offers an attractive option for range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) to prolong the driving range. This research aims to investigate the energy consumption of MGT-based REEV under different driving cycles. Model of the MGT-based REEV is established to access the energy consumption of EV under different driving cycle. Results show that the MGT model has a high precision, the difference between simulation and experiment is smaller than 2% in power, and ±3% in speed and turbine inlet temperature. When the battery SOC changes from 1.0 to 0.3, the driving range is 128 km and 73 km under highway fuel economy cycle (HWY) and supplement FTP driving cycle (US06) respectively. In addition, under HWY cycle, REEV has obvious advantages in NOx and CO emissions and energy consumption. This research may aid in understanding the energy consumption in MGT-based range extender electric vehicles.
