Green synthesis and characterisation of silver nanoparticles using Oliveria decumbens aqueous extract

Abstract: Nanotechnology is a new technology and has rapidly improved in recent years. Nanoparticles are variously used in the industry and biomedicine. Silver has an antibacterial effect that influences biological macromolecules like DNA and enzymes. The toxic effect of Ag nanoparticles is more than bulk. The aim of this work was the synthesis of Ag nanoparticles with green chemistry by Oliveria decumbens extract as a reducing agent. The formation of AgNPs was confirmed by UV-visible spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of Ag metal with a typical crystallite size of 17 nm. Size of nanoparticles. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) reveals sphere-shaped particles with a mean size of less than 18 nm. Biological activity measurements using bacterial culture. Antibacterial assays indicate that AgNPs exhibit a good toxicity effect on E. coli and staphylococcus aureus as gram-negative and positive bacteria, respectively. This study suggests that Ag nanoparticles that synthesised with green chemistry can be used as an antibacterial compound.
