Globalisation and renewable energy impact on carbon emissions in Ghana

Abstract: Combating carbon emissions has been a global concern due to the negative impact it has on the environment. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence carbon emissions is a top priority for every country. Using GMM and DOLS to investigate the influence of globalisation, and renewable energy on carbon emissions, the results indicate that trade openness and population reduce carbon emission. The pollution haven hypothesis is confirmed, but environmental Kuznet's curve theory is not valid for Ghana's situation. Economic growth and renewable energy are not significant. Restrictions should be put on foreign investors while encouraging the use of renewable energy technologies.
