Abstract: An optimal framework for dual-clutch coordinating starting is presented to balance the friction work of two clutches. Based on the dual-clutch coordinating starting dynamics model, optimal equation is formulated in which the weighting of the friction work, square of the jerk, and square of the control variables are considered as the optimisation objectives, and the engine torque and clutch-torque change rate are considered as the control variables. The Legendre pseudospectral method is suitable to be used to solve complex nonlinear problems and it is adopted for transforming the optimal control problem into a nonlinear programming problem, and the sequential quadratic programming method is employed for solving the integral term constraint problem with a state variable. Using a dual-clutch transmission car as prototype, optimal trajectories for starting in different working conditions are obtained. Experiments performed on a dual-clutch coordinating starting bench test verify the effectiveness of proposed optimal control strategy.
