Adaptive polling interval scheduling to support real-time service in Bluetooth networks

Abstract: To support real-time traffic in a piconet of a Bluetooth network is one of the important issues in the research of Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN), since the Bluetooth products are quite popular currently. In this paper, we study the issue of supporting real-time service in a piconet of a Bluetooth network. We propose a novel scheduling algorithm for the polling protocol at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer to support real-time traffic streams to meet their delay constraints. We have conducted extensive simulation experiments to verify our proposal. The simulation results demonstrate that our scheme can effectively serve the real-time traffic streams within their time tolerances and provide best-effort services with reasonable performance as well.
