Abstract: This study examined the moderating role of ethnic groups on key factors leading to employee turnover intention in construction companies in Malaysia. An online survey questionnaire collected 390 responses. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to assess validity, reliability and hypothesis testing of the study variables. The research findings discovered that perceived ease of movement, risk-taking and perceived barriers have significant positive relationships with employee turnover intention, whereas perceived desirability of movement, internal locus of control and perceived organisational support has significant negative relationships with employee turnover intention. Ethnic group was found to partially moderate the results. This study offers new findings on the moderating role of the ethnic groups in predicting employee turnover intention. It also provides essential information to the employers and policymakers to establish various retention strategies to reduce employee turnover rates among different ethnic groups in the construction industry of Malaysia.
