Abstract: The purpose of this research was to study the characteristics of the management control tools in use in municipal public services in Cameroonian cities. It also involved examining the nature of the performance measurement systems of municipal public services through a study of the contingent characteristics of the municipal performance. Thus, a questionnaire survey was administered to 50 councils and 60 municipal public services in Cameroonian cities. The descriptive statistics produced from the data collected during the quantitative survey reveal that the tools for monitoring the performance of municipal services in Cameroonian cities are not very significant and remain very superficial in all the services visited.
