Abstract: The dynamic load rating is considered as the objective function for the robust optimum design of spherical roller bearing (SRB). The main novelty is that it outlines a design procedure for the robust optimum design of SRB. Robust design not only maximises the dynamic capacity but also minimises the variation in the dynamic capacity to an extent due to manufacturing tolerances. Two novel strength-based realistic constraints were also added in the present work. Along with it two new probabilistic constraints have been added, which gives more flexibility to the designer. Elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm is used to solve a non-linear constrained optimisation formulation. Results indicate that the dynamic capacity of the optimised bearing was enhanced. A constraint violation study has been completed to further gauge the effectiveness of each constraint. A convergence study has been accomplished to warrant the near global optimum point in the feasible design space.
