Abstract: This paper presents an advanced robust control system design for a sustainable energy system. This work also described an optimal design and implementation of an efficient self-sustainable energy system with consideration of energy storage options for excess energy produced by renewable energy sources. A solar powered self-sustainable energy system is considered for this investigation. Three distinct options of energy storage solutions such as supercapacitor, batteries, and power to gas (P2G) methods, were considered. To maximise the use of renewable energies, detailed analysis has been carried out to maximise opportunities in the capture, storage and management of energy. The analysis presented in this paper indicated that for small-scale system, battery energy storage is the best option, whilst the power to gas methods may be appropriate for large-scale system. The simulation results shown that; the suggested system configuration and energy management strategy under the assumptions presented, operate effectively, and can provide continuous and sustained energy supply to the off-grid system.
