Abstract: The purpose of the study is to analyse e-tourism in Campania, in order to evaluate whether and how the region is meeting the challenges posed by new technologies and to possibly identify performance-enhancing factors. A questionnaire, referred to organisational typologies, was submitted to all top-level managers of 12 local tourist districts. The acquired data was processed using the factor analysis approach. The study of the region's 12 local tourist districts allowed for the identification of three different district typologies. In the South of Italy there are another 28 districts organised as administrative units like the ones in Campania, so the analysis can be extended to these as well. Possible measures to address operational and cultural problems in the region have been identified as: further research at the national and international level, analysis of good practices and cross contamination of proactive district managers with the less active district managers.
