Current status of electric vehicles in India: an overview

Abstract: In the present scenario, it is necessary to increase utilisation of new technology in the field of transportation sector. Electric vehicles or hybrid plug in electric vehicles are a very good option to conventional gasoline and diesel operated vehicles. This paper presents current infrastructure of electric vehicles in India and addresses state-wise the number of electric vehicles registered in the last 5 to 10 years. Further, Indian Government policy towards green vehicles, ecosystem of electric vehicles in terms of market, technical and infrastructure point of view is also presented. Assessment of charging framework in India and grid parity of an electric vehicle are the key points addressed in this paper.
