Simulation and optimisation of suspension parameters of high-speed train

Abstract: The demand for high-speed transportation forces the railway industries to provide a comfortable journey to their passengers at high speed. But increased speed negatively affects the dynamic performance of the railway vehicle. The suspensions may be modified to tackle this problem. Typically, to get the best combination of suspension parameters, different design solutions could be tested by comparing the simulation results. Still, sometimes it is too costly and time-consuming due to the complexity of the system. So, it becomes unrealistic to assess all or even a considerable portion of feasible design solutions. Optimisation is one of the methods to enhance the functioning of a vehicle in the form of high speed, safety, and comfort. In this paper, an attempt is made to optimise suspension parameters of a high-speed train using response surface methodology to enhance the ride comfort while satisfying the stability condition at the same time.
