Abstract: A high isolation 4 × 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna that operates at 5.2 GHz WLAN band (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ax amendment) applications is the focus of this paper. The design that is under consideration is made up of four pentagonal microstrip antennas. Enhanced isolation among the radiating elements is achieved by using inter-element spacing of half-wavelength, orientation of the elements and the defective ground structure (DGS). Inter-element spacing in between the radiating elements is estimated using SystemVue based on antenna array parameters. RT duroid 5880 substrate is utilised for the fabrication the MIMO antenna. The proposed radiating element exhibits a peak gain of 7 dB, impedance bandwidth of 175 MHz and isolation > 35 dB. The size of the MIMO antenna is 84 × 80 mm2. The assessment of how the MIMO antenna performs is undertaken in terms of diversity gain (DC) and envelope correlation coefficient (ECC). Various QAM modulation techniques are studied and implemented in MATLAB and the one which outperforms the rest is suggested. The fabricated MIMO antenna is validated using state-of-the art equipment. The simulated results and the measured results greatly agree with each other.
