Abstract: The focus of this paper is to explicate the relationship between organisational culture and succession planning in the context of higher education institutions. Organisational culture has influenced several aspects of organisations including when implementing changes. Therefore, institutional leaders have been experiencing challenges on how to manage the organisational culture within higher education institutions. Furthermore, this research paper has been evaluated and critically examines the various empirical models of organisational culture and succession planning from the last decade. This paper is consisted of a systematic literature review and content analysis. The consequences revealed that there is a lack of integrated models on the relationship between organisational culture and succession planning from the perspective of higher education institutions. Therefore, the current study proposed an integrated model of culture-succession based on the competing values framework (CVF) by Cameron and Quinn (1999). Moreover, many ideas were suggested for the theory and methodology development through the review, specifically for the present and future of succession planning.
