Whether the construction of functional zones can improve the economic efficiencies of the industry: an empirical study based on the SFA-Tobit model

Abstract: In order to examine the impact of functional area construction on the variability of economic benefits of each industry, this article takes four urban areas and two functional areas in Beijing as an example. The research results show that the relationship between the size of economic benefits of each area shows the distribution characteristic of 'area d> area a> area c> area b'; among which, area b is mostly labour-intensive industry, and area c is mostly capital-intensive industry. The economic efficiency of wholesale and retail trade is the highest, construction is the second, transportation, storage and postal industry is the third, and health and social work is the worst. The construction of functional areas has a significant impact on the economic benefits of most industries. The more developed the scientific research and technical services, electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply, and real estate industries are, the more developed the wholesale and retail trade, education, and finance industries are when they are close to the science and technology functional areas only.
