Abstract: This paper attempts a historical appraisal of the contributions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to agricultural development intervention schemes in Benue State. Adducing supportive evidence from National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), CBN, and other published materials, the paper acknowledges the critical role played by these schemes over a period of time. It also identifies the inhabiting factors to CBN's agricultural development institutions. It further argues that these challenging factors acted as a synergy for making the state of agriculture in Benue State subsistence with unlimited mechanisation and poor crops yields, etc. This paper makes use of oral and written sources. It concludes that though, the CBN's agricultural development schemes impacted positively on the State, these programmes have not fully transformed agriculture in Benue. The total transformation of agriculture in the study area largely depends on the solutions to the above challenges besetting agricultural productivity.
