Abstract: The steady-state phenomenon of the engagement of a novel dry clutch is studied using finite element analysis (FEA), as well as the transient of clutch engagement for a simple scenario. The design is shown to affect a transition from a frictional contact to a form interference as the mode of torque transmission, thus allowing to carry significantly more torque while requiring less actuation force than a disc clutch of a corresponding size.
