Abstract: The finite element-based static and modal analysis of the automobile leaf spring has been carried out using ANSYS workbench. The von-Mises stress, total deformation and weight reduction of the leaf spring have been evaluated for various geometric, material and loading conditions. The model validation and comparison studies have been performed with the available literatures. The free vibrational analysis has also been evaluated for the first five modes to avoid the resonance condition. It is found that the boron/Al-graphite/epoxy with an aspect ratio of 6.36 as the best combination for reduction of weight, deflection and modal response of the leaf spring used.
