Salvaging waste heat with TMDC nanostructured materials in a thermoelectric outlook - mini review

Abstract: The surge in the demand for fuel has kindled researchers to extensively explore energy storage devices that exhibit high performance. Over the years, nanomaterials particularly two-dimensional materials have been showing excellent physicochemical properties which are attributed to their high surface area, efficient electrical conductivity, tunable electronic structure, excellent mechanical hardness, and preferred electrochemical characteristics, that make them a better choice for energy storage applications. The transition metal chalcogenides are integrated with other suitable materials and these composites are tuned such that they can be suitable for energy storage devices applications. They reveal improved electrical and structural stability. This article has dealt on the present-day progress of transition metal chalcogenide composites for energy storage applications and the various methods to improve their thermoelectric properties by increasing their figure of merit thereby leading to the futuristic wearable smart materials that can be used in multidisciplinary field.
