Traditional Jebena coffee and women livelihood: Ambo town in focus

Abstract: This paper primarily finds out the contribution of traditional Ethiopian coffee (Jebena coffee) to the change in livelihood of family in general and women in particular in Ambo town. For this purpose women who sit on the corner of the main road and inside the town are taken arbitrarily. The study uses convenience sampling and accordingly 104 women was taken as the sample. Simple linear regression is employed to find out the relationship between livelihood of women and the Jebena coffee business. The result of the study shows that trading Jebena coffee has a positive impact on improving housing, health, income, education and boosting bargaining power of women. It is recommended that the concerned government and non-government bodies organise women engaging in small businesses in a better way so that return from the business is improved; and women and family livelihood is supported for better living standard.
