Abstract: With increasing free trade agreements (FTA) among major economic blocs such as the USA, Canada, EU, India, and Chile, Korea has expanded the scope of its global market in the textile and apparel industry. Building on the successes of its automotive, semi-conductor, construction, and shipbuilding industries, Korea is attempting to tap into the global market potential. However, in global markets, the competitive position of the Korean textile and apparel industry requires careful investigation. This study discusses the challenges and opportunities for the Korean textile and apparel industry. Additionally, based on a literature review and macro-level data, it presents a typology of the Korean textile and apparel industry. It also examines global supply chain strategies and operational priorities of this industry.
