Abstract: A literature review has been done for switched reluctance motor (SRM) for electric vehicle (EV) applications. Contribution of SRM to EV is in the budding stage, and hence this survey will be a good guide for the researchers who delve in to this. The excitation to SR machine is given in sequential steps to its stator windings, and by a proper selection of switching angles and the allied exciting current levels, SRM will be a better competitive in EV applications. To attain this, (i) modifications in the geometrical design of the motor and (ii) novel designs of converter control strategies are widely approached. These two will help to mitigate the torque ripple of the machine and the associated vibrations and noise, which are the notable disadvantages of SR machines. This paper thus is aimed to provide a comprehensive survey on the research of SRM for EV applications.
