Design and analysis of semiactive mount for multi-flow path MR fluid

Abstract: This paper summarises the advantages and disadvantages of inertial channel hydraulic mounts, decoupled membrane hydraulic mounts, and bell-plate hydraulic mounts, based on GM's design requirements for engine mounts, using magnetorheological fluid to control four flow channels. The semi-active mount can be switched ON and OFF by applying a large magnetic field to each channel, respectively, and changing the total cross-sectional area of the mounts to achieve adjustable dynamic stiffness and loss angle at low and moderate frequencies. The combination of the decoupled diaphragm and new bell-plate is used in the high-frequency stage to achieve lower peak dynamic stiffness and alleviate the high-frequency hardening problem. Numerical simulation shows that the semi-active mount can exhibit large dynamic stiffness and high damping at low frequency and large amplitude, and small dynamic stiffness and low damping at high frequency and small amplitude, realising the wide frequency vibration isolation effect of the mounts.
