Urban hygiene and transport: a functional approach to the study of the system with the instruments of economic logistics
by Francesco D'Alfonso, Alfonso Marino
International Journal of Environmental Technology and Management (IJETM), Vol. 6, No. 6, 2006

Abstract: This research work was inspired by observing the permanent waste emergency conditions of the Campania Region. The study also clearly shows the need for a global assessment of the costs and benefits created by the management of a service, such as urban hygiene, which is still a public service. This kind of approach is essential when wants to assess the possibility of using modes of transport other than road in the logistic organisation of urban waste. The internalisation of the external costs produced by different modes of transport represents the main instrument to achieve a different distribution of urban waste traffic.
