Abstract: The study is dedicated to the energy transition in Ukraine with a focus on the relevant power system transformation. It is shown that under the influence of strengthened cooperation with the European Union (EU), Ukraine has made measurable progress on its energy transition over the past six years. The positive trend in low carbon electricity generation is achieved mainly due to the supporting mechanism of 'green tariffs'; and raising electricity prices as a downside of this process becomes a new pressing issue. Based on a survey of the relevant literature and statistical data, the analysis uncovers other challenges for further progress: (1) undesirable implementation of the National renewable energy action plan; (2) lack of flexible generation capacities; (3) sufficiency of the traditional electricity generating facilities; (4) weak competitiveness for complete integration in the EU electricity market. The pointed issues are discussed to help policymakers in updating Ukraine's energy transition pathway.
