Enforcing IoT data verification and privacy using origin identification traceability

Abstract: The internet of things (IoT) are addressable objects with built-in sensors that can collect and transfer data over the internet. In healthcare, IoT facilitates medical process efficiency, enhanced patient service delivery, real-time intelligent decision making, and increased care value. As more devices communicate with each other via the internet, there is need to determine the origins of the data especially, in situations where trust is paramount such as wearable IoT. It is however difficult to determine data origins in IoT architectures since multiple IoT devices can be generating similar content; and it is important to identify individual data sources transparently. Thus, this paper proposes a combination of policy-based provenance and modelled the peer-to-peer IoT device communication as a graph network. Using Floyd's algorithm, we can verify data origins in the shortest paths between interconnected IoT devices. The results from multiple practical and real-world evaluations prove the superiority of the proposed work.
