Fuzzy logic-based hybrid active filter for compensating harmonic and reactive power in distributed generation

Abstract: This paper presents a fuzzy logic control (FLC) based single stage reduced switch cascaded solar inverter (RSCSI) for renewable sectors. The detailed modelling of RSCSI operation by showing the reduced switch conditions is presented. To increase the efficiency of the system perturb and observe (P&O)-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method is integrated in the system. In the planned approach, to reduce the harmonic distortion the single stage RSCSI behaves as a shunt hybrid active power filter (SHAPF) by offering more voltage levels. Furthermore, the d-q reference method and an improved wide-band control technique are suggested for controlling SHAPF. FLC is used in the SHAPF to avoid the limitation of the conventional PI control based shunt active power filter (SAPF). A detailed comparative harmonic analysis has been done through MATLAB/Simulink software and the simulation results of the test system verify the enhanced performance of the proposed approach.
