Abstract: The transition from a vehicle with an internal combustion engine (ICE) to a battery electric vehicle (BEV) leads to a growth in the importance of road noise. Since the masking of the combustion engine is missing, the excitation transferred from the road through the suspension to the body structure is more perceivable to the passenger than ever before. Simulation methods rely on different approaches to capture these effects. Commonly finite elements are applied to simulate this path up to the interior noise. The present paper follows a new approach, combining the finite element method and multibody simulation. The latter is used to calculate the dynamic forces transmitted from the tyre-road interaction and the suspension to the body. Here a structural dynamics tyre model plays a crucial role. These forces are then applied to the FE model, representing the body structure, to calculate interior noise. The combination of both methods leads to an approach in structure-borne road noise simulation which not only reduces complexity but also increases accuracy.
