Abstract: In this paper, it has been proposed that microgrids can form economically and technically viable option for the rural electrification. It has been observed that inverters form the basic building blocks of these microgrids. The effect of voltage and current loop control parameters on the phase margin, cut-off frequency of the inverter control system is analysed in detail using industry recognised PSIM software. Introduction of a third 'virtual' capacitive feedback loop changes the nature and magnitude of inverter output impedance. Virtual feedback loop designing is explained by controlling the time constant of the integrator circuit. The comparative analysis of the inverter performance is done for both with and without the virtual impedance feedback loop through a case study of 510 W, 220 V system. It has been observed that introduction of capacitive feedback loop can lead to reduction in higher order voltage harmonics, and improvement in voltage regulation.
