Predictors of knowledge sharing behaviour of medical doctors in the Ibadan metropolis, Nigeria

Abstract: Medical doctors' professional knowledge and clinical expertise are very critical to the quality of health services provided by them, which makes it highly imperative for them to regularly update and share knowledge. This study therefore focuses on investigating knowledge sharing among medical doctors in the Ibadan metropolis, Nigeria by seeking to find out the factors that predict knowledge sharing among these professionals. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. Data was collected with a questionnaire from medical doctors who were randomly selected across the five local government areas that make up the Ibadan metropolis. Findings reveal that individual factors (attitude, perceived behavioural control and trust), social factors (social interaction and subjective norms), organisational factors (organisational culture and formalisation), motivational factors (enjoyment in helping others, rewards and incentives), and technological factors (availability of ICTs) predict KSB of the doctors. The study also found a significant difference between the demographics of the doctors and their KSB. The study recommends that hospital management, healthcare policymakers and stakeholders could leverage these factors to promote KS culture among medical personnel.
