Abstract: Technological advances and the rising trend of smartphone usage have affected almost every area of life and facilitated the transaction process between buyers and sellers. The adoption of smartphones in the business sector provides flexibility and convenience for individuals to carry out daily shopping activities. It is worth noting that the behaviours related to the intentions of SMEs to adopt mobile payment systems and their actual use have been ignored in the academic literature. This study aims to explore the behaviour of SMEs in the adoption and actual use of mobile payment system and with the help of an extended technology-organisation-environment (TOE) framework model. This study collected data from SMEs in two countries (China and Pakistan) at two different time points (interval of one year). This study uses multiple regression and neural network analysis to analyse the data. The results of this study show that the adoption of mobile payment system and actual use by SMEs has encouraged technology adoption to promote business activities in an era of intense competition. In addition, this study also discussed the implications, limitations, and directions for future research.
