Abstract: With the current emphasis on energy conservation, vapour absorption refrigeration cycle can be an economic alternative for conventional Vapour Compression Refrigeration (VCR) cycle. Various modifications in separation process for ammonia and water as well as different modifications in conventional Ammonia Absorption Refrigeration (AAR) cycle have been simulated for comparing energy efficiency. Effect of various operating parameters in the cycle has been studied to operate the AAR cycle at optimum conditions. Results of the simulations are compared with conventional AAR cycle as well as VCR on the basis of Coefficient of Performance (COP). In order to reflect the importance of use of low-grade heat energy, a parameter called Exergetic Coefficient of Performance (ECOP) is employed.
