Numerical simulation of the pool fire behaviours in the aircraft cabin

Abstract: The misfire in plane cabin may lead to hazardous accident. It is significant to study its pool fire behaviour during aircraft operation safety. One single aisle cabin in civil airplane was considered. The calculated and physical cabin models were constructed by using FDS. The slices and detectors were placed to trace fire dynamic parameters' changes. The evolution of temperature, flow velocity and species' concentrations were analysed. The results show that the fire characteristic parameters undergo both transient and steady stages. In transient stage, the temperature, flow velocity and species' concentrations increase within several seconds. But oxygen concentration decreases as oxygen is consumed in combustion process. In steady stage, the parameters oscillate around one constant. In the first stage, the fire characteristic parameters change more importantly in zones far from the fuselage doors. The air entrance from the doors predominantly reduces the combustion temperature and also prolongs the transient period.
