International Journal of Technology Intelligence and Planning (IJTIP), Vol. 2, No. 3, 2006

Abstract: In recent years, technology-based technology brokering has been considered a major opportunity for reducing market imperfections, which had long constrained the functioning of the markets for technology. Owing to the rise in new information and communication technologies, the market for technology brokering services experienced a major transformation. In particular, services based on internet applications were considered the main driver of enhanced conditions in the markets for technology. This technology-based approach to technology brokering was about to change the way in which technology transfer deals were initiated and closed. Despite the huge potential inherent in technology-based technology brokering, however, the insights into these activities are strongly limited. The present paper attempts to bridge the resulting gaps in prior research by establishing a detailed overview of the development of technology-based technology brokering. In addition, major recent trends in the field of technology-based brokering services are identified. After discussing the implications of this evolution for technology intelligence and planning, an outlook on the future development of technology-based technology brokering is given.
