Abstract: Is nanotechnology driving a manufacturing revolution and producing new products and systems that will change society? Will it fulfil the promise of creating new industries, solutions to health and environmental problems or will it threaten our very existence? This paper is intended to give the non-expert a realistic and broad overview of the current position and future expectations of nanotechnology with particular emphasis on applications, the manufacturing of new products and the paths to market.
