An investigation of hybrid LES/RANS models for predicting flow fields with separation

Abstract: A hybrid approach connecting Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) modelling in the near-wall region is studied. The present hybrid model includes an advanced non-linear eddy-viscosity formulation to more correctly resolve the near-wall stress anisotropy. To investigate the model performance for complex turbulence, the present model is applied to a periodic hill flow with massive separation. The present model provides encouraging results for further development of this kind of hybrid LES/RANS model.
