Abstract: This study deals with modelling and 4-E analysis of a solid waste gasification combined cycle plant, conceived for the municipal area of Kolkata (India). It reveals that the plant can utilise municipal waste to generate about 300 MW at a maximum efficiency of 49%. The combustor accounts for maximum exergy destruction, followed by the gasifer and the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). The plant offers very low cost of electricity and CO2 emission (2.8 INR/kWh and 580 g/kWh respectively, at optimum point) and also saves significant environmental damage cost by avoiding land-filling.
