Abstract: A review of the existing methods of the bus rollover computer simulation is conducted in the paper. In order to investigate the motion of the bus before collision with ditch surface, the mathematical model of the bus motion was developed. To confirm the reliability of this model a comparison between the results of mathematical modelling, finite element method (FEM) simulation and experimental rollover of a bus section is made. It is found that the friction coefficient between the bus and the tilting platform, as well as the bus centre of gravity (COG) height, affects the ratio between bus kinetic energy of the impact and potential energy of the bus at the beginning of the rollover. As a result, an experimentally confirmed theoretical foundation for the most accurate method of computer simulation of the bus rollover according to UNECE Regulation No. 66 is given.
