Telemedicine: a virtual collaboration perspective
by David L. Paul, Keri E. Pearlson, Reuben R. McDaniel Jr.
International Journal of Healthcare Technology and Management (IJHTM), Vol. 2, No. 1/2/3/4, 2000

Abstract: A conceptual framework of telemedicine as virtual collaboration, drawn from research and literature from information systems, management, and health care, is presented. The framework included hypercompetition as the problem domain, telemedicine as virtual collaboration as a solution, and value added health care delivery as the output. Barriers to effective telemedicine projects should be judged by the extent to which they inhibit or enable collaboration. Potential benefits of this framework are highlighted, and areas of future research needed to address the questions raised by this perspective are identified.
