Abstract: There are few studies of labour productivity of employee in the Asian emerging markets, however, there is no empirical evidence in Vietnam. The paper aims to investigate the impact of key factors on the labour productivity of employees in the retail sector in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The quarterly panel data were collected from 69 convenience stores in the period 2014-2015. The empirical result shows that factors such as wage, the number of employees, age of the store and the acreage of the store selling area had the positive effect and significant statistics on labour productivity. However, our study investigates that the turnover and the age of employees had the negative impact on labour productivity of employee in this case. Our result also finds the negative effects of education and labour structure of store on labour productivity of employee but these effects are not significant. Finally, we have some conclusions and implications for managers to increase labour productivity in their business.
