Sustainable development - goals and challenges ahead in developing countries

Abstract: This research paper is an attempt to analyse the concept of sustainability from its origin along with in depth understanding of its relevance especially in developing countries like India. The inclusive process of intergovernmental negotiations at global level have defined a set of sustainable development goals as per United Nations sustainable development summit, which has a major agenda of achieving sustainable development by all means across the world. This research attempts to anticipate the position and situations under which these goals would be fulfilled by India. Moreover, the various challenges associated with sustainability have been discussed herewith, mostly involving people residing in rural areas of developing countries. The research analyses the means through which these challenges can be faced, strategies such as better opportunities, enabling empowerment and increasing security to decelerate poverty and achieve sustainable development are discussed.
