Abstract: Transportation by vehicle is an important part of a team's budget and an athlete's life. Transportation can have an impact on an athlete's organism and performance (e.g., motion sickness). However, decisions on transportation distances, related to the lodging and competition locations, are made without proper consideration for such potential effects. The aim of this study was to identify the activities of athletes during transportation and its possible impact on athletes representing different sports. According to questionnaires filled by team coaches, up to 100% of athletes sit with closed eyes during morning transportation to the competition site. Using simulation of drowsy-athlete transportation, we found shooters and rowers to be potentially the most vulnerable groups to the balance sense impairment related to transportation with closed eyes, whereas team sport players were the most resistant. Our findings can be useful for optimal management of team transportation and lodging.
