Abstract: Owing to the limitation of dealing with detailed, massive, heterogeneous traffic information, the service centre of today's majority mobile navigation systems can only provide static or partly dynamic navigation service. In addition, less compatibility of the system architecture causes diversity of mobile devices not to be matched. This paper presents a mobile navigation service platform based on Shanghai Traffic Information Grid (STIG), which utilises the computing power of Grid platform to resolve the heavy distributed real-time data management and information integration of intelligent transportation systems and generates high value-added traffic information service such as: dynamic travel scheme, real-time route status, dynamic yellow page information. With the high compatibility, this platform is open enough to provide navigation information to many kinds of mobile users, such as in-vehicle terminal, PDA, Smart Phone, subscribers with J2ME capacity, or general mobile phones, by web pages, Java application or SMS.
