The meaning of business success: Moslem women entrepreneur in Surakarta

Abstract: This study aims to understand the meaning of business success for Moslem women entrepreneurs in Surakarta. The various roles attached to Moslem women and social complexity they faced, become the reason to conduct a study related Moslem women entrepreneurs in Surakarta holistically. This study is conducted using qualitative method under phenomenology approach. Informant is selected as research subject through purposive sampling technique based on the predetermined criteria. The data is collected for a year using in-depth interview and unstructured interview methods. Moslem women entrepreneurs in Surakarta interpret the success of business in the economic aspect that is related to the creation of business sustainability through the maximisation of business potential and asset growth. Then, the aspect of spirituality becomes the basis for Moslem women entrepreneurs to achieve self-improvement. So they also interpret the success of their business from non-economic aspects through the absence of selfishness, creating maslahah for family and society.
