  Abstract/
Summary
In this article, we develop a fully automatic ventilation therapy system based on open lung concept with the aid of artificial intelligence (AI), which designs intelligent machines imitating intelligent behaviors. Our operational concept is applicable to patients with respiratory insufficiency of poor oxygenation or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). 'Open the lung and keep the lung open' is the central idea for implementing this ventilation strategy. Thereby, a new algorithm of open lung concept is described with the aim to prevent ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) and to improve gas exchange. The automatic ventilation therapy is carried out using porcine dynamics of induced ARDS. Quick response of significantly improved oxygenation and safety can be achieved by this closed-loop ventilation system.
