  Abstract/
Summary
Students and software developers have difficulty conceptualising real-world problems as key abstractions within the context of object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD). They have particular difficulty deriving sequence diagrams from the problem domain. This paper reports a game-based learning approach to help students produce appropriate sequence diagrams from the problem domain. The game was 'scaffolded' with increasing levels of difficulty to facilitate progressive development of competence in producing complete and appropriate sequence diagrams. We present the results of a pilot evaluation of the game.
